The identification code
Seven codes, four of them quartered. The plant room already reads them, so this site uses nothing else.
Every hose, cylinder and terminal unit on a UK medical gas pipeline system is identified by colour under BS EN ISO 5359 and HTM 02-01. Entonox, medical air, surgical air and AGSS are quartered rather than solid. Medical air and surgical air share one marking: they are told apart by label and by pressure, never by colour.
Grouping this site’s pages by those colours is our convention rather than part of the standard. The Authorising Engineer and assessment work is nitrous, the other named-person services entonox, documentation and drawings medical air, audit, risk and the Competent Person courses vacuum, equipment and the safety-awareness courses AGSS, and cylinder handling and storage surgical air. Oxygen is shown here for completeness and codes no page: its marking is white, which cannot rule a heading on a white page.

Selecting an AE
Employ the right Authorising Engineer (MGPS) to support you
- Either Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer in the appropriate discipline
- Sufficient engineering knowledge
- Qualified and registered to the required level with certification evidence
- More than IHEEM’s minimum of five years relevant experience
- Completed appropriate AE and AP(MGPS) course
- Professional Indemnity and Company Liability Insurance
